Easy Snacks/Treats For Being At Home

yourlocalplanteater

Due to our current circumstances, being at home and being around the kitchen, as well as being bored can lead to a lot of snacking. A lot of people are ordering food and snacks off of amazon, or when going to the grocery store, stalked up on our favourite snacks.

I love snacks and I love snacking; I mean who doesn’t. For me, I like to have whole food and healthy snacks throughout the day. Whether it is some coconut yogurt with some fresh fruit and granola, or some veggies with hummus, or a smoothie! I find it I eat chips or ice cream in the middle of the day it will make me feel a bit sluggish. I try to have snacks that are energizing and will keep me satisfied and feeling fulfilled!

My family and I have found that we have quite the sweet tooth after dinner. Every night we have been having dinner early and then our sweet tooth kicks in. We were talking about how we didn’t want to be eating chips, cookies, and cake every night to satisfy this desire.

I told my parents I would come up with some treats for us to have that would be easy to make, or easy to store! I came up with 2 simple snack ideas that you can have during the day, or to have after dinner that is satisfying, filling and sweet! These recipes are fun to make and can be a group effort! These recipes are made with ingredients that are easy to access or potentially you may already have sitting at home in your pantry!

Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip Protein Balls

You will need

1 cup rolled oats (I blended it to make it into an oat flour texture, but you can opt out of that)

½ cup peanut butter (can use any nut butter of your choice)

¼ cup shredded coconut

¼ cup ground flaxseed meal

½ cup shredded dark chocolate or chocolate chips

1/3 cup honey, agave or maple syrup

½ tablespoon cinnamon

How to

  1. Add all of your ingredients into a large bowl and mix together with a large wooden spoon.

  2. Once it is all combined, use your hands to roll your creation into small little bite sized balls. About 1 generous tablespoon is the perfect amount.

  3. Place them into a container and keep them in the fridge for an hour before eating them! (You can eat them right away, but they taste much better after being stored in the fridge. You can speed up the process by keeping them in the freezer for 15-20 minutes)

  4. Keep them stored in the fridge and enjoy!

  5. Store these little guys in the fridge for up to a week! They won’t last that long though; they are so good they’ll surely be gone before then!

Fudgy Chocolate Sweet Potato Brownies

These are so delicious and so healthy for you. You can trick anyone that these brownies are not made with sweet potatoes, you can even trick yourself after making them! My family loved these and could not believe it when I told them that their main ingredient was sweet potatoes. These are also a great way to sneak in some vegetables.

You will need

3/4 cup mashed sweet potato (1 large potato, steamed or baked fully) 1 cup of peanut butter or almond butter

1/4 cup maple syrup 1/4 cup sugar or coconut sugar

1/3 cup almond flour

4 tablespoons of cocoa powder (add a little bit more if you like them really rich)

1/4 teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon baking soda 2 teaspoons vanilla

1 cup of chocolate chips (optional but I highly recommend)

How to 1. Add all your ingredients into a bowl and mix it all up. (Mine were a bit chunky because I was impatient for the sweet potato to bake. If it bakes fully then yours won’t be chunky, unless you would like them to be!)

2. Butter your pan that you bake it in, (it’s up to you how thick or thin you want them to be)

3. Bake for 20-25 minutes at 350 degrees

4. Keep them stored in the fridge and enjoy!

A batch of these can be stored in the fridge for up to a week.

I hope you enjoy these easy snacks and treats and are able to re-create them with your loved ones at home. May you all stay safe and well. Wishing you all of the best!

Hope
