Lovely, sustainable swimwear

Writer's picture: Wilma WannerWilma Wanner

Summer is officially coming! It may not feel like it during these surreal times, but hopefully, we will be able to go for a swim despite the circumstances.

According to Wolven Threads, an estimated 14 billion pounds of garbage is dumped into the ocean every year. 80 percent of this is a plastic that kills marine life and pollutes the once working ecosystem. This is terrible facts, but luckily there are plenty of companies wanting to do something about it, who wants to change the fashion industry. The world thrives with thoughtful and unselfish people who want to make a difference.

Down below I have made a list with some of my favourite labels for you wonderful people!

Remember that the fabrics that are made out of plastic (nylon etc.) release microplastics. Therefore I highly recommend you to use a Guppy Friend or similar when washing the product. This goes for all fabrics made out of plastic. Such as some activewear, blankets and bathrobes.

More than 95% of Vitamin A products, including many of the fabrics are manufactured locally in Southern California. When needed they partner with fair trade artisan groups to promote women’s economic empowerment in the developing world. They aim to reduce their impact and use their voices to raise awareness and generate change. The materials they use are different types of recycled nylon materials and raw, natural materials, such as BioSculpt, based on castor bean, EcoCotton made out of recycled cotton and Tencel® and thirdly EcoLinen, made out of whole flax plant which means zero waste. They support "1% for the Planet" which means they give 1% of gross sales each year to environmental nonprofits.)
